My first All Your Yesterdays entry! This be a Pachyrhinosaurus all blinged out for a night on the town! With quills, a predator confusing pattern, a fancy dewlap, and a massive multi-pointed keratin horn!! Pachyrhinosaurus is usually given a boring old boss on it's nose, but rhinos have the same bosses, and they have huge horns!

Just so you know, a keratin horn might not be the most likely thing anymore.

Well, it's not like every study is set in stone.  They are just guessing based on highly eroded bone textures.  And the structure might not even be comparable to modern animals at all!  Their interpretation is probably the most likely, but my professor of Paleo here still thinks a horn is very possible, and there are way too many variables to discount every other scenario.

Good point then.

I'm personally hoping it had a horn. Add some thick filaments to Pachyrhinosaurus perotorum (who lived in Alaska), and a giant keratin horn, and you've basically got yourself a dinosaurian woolly rhino.

Pretty much, this is in my opinion the "most likely" version…  www.dinopit.com/wp-content/upl…

A pointed, raised mound of keratin on a bony base pad.

How in the world where pachyrhinosaurus have a 50-foot long horn?!:wow: It's hard to understand, but I like the small horn-like bumps better.:) And pretty good work!

Haha, it's only a ~5 foot long horn, and it is just speculation!

Well, I hate to say this, I have'nt drawing the 5 foot long horn of the pachyrhinosaurus from the very long time since I sketch the old one.

Nice picture, I like how you gave the horn a sort of "samurai sord" shape and how you pointed out that rhinos had similar skull designs!!!! :wow:

A bit scarier than a unicorn...

Giant pig of death with a huge stabby horn has a nice ring to it!

3-4 tons of force behind that horn would put a rhino to shame!

"Pachyrhinosaurus is usually given a boring old boss on it's nose, but rhinos have the same bosses, and they have huge horns!"

That's a good point, I've never considered that before; and keratin doesn't preserve as well as bone so who knows? Maybe Pachyrhinosaurus really did have an extraordinary structure like this! Very good entry, worthy competition.

Thanks for the kind words! Keratin is almost never preserved, so who knows what all those crazy horns may have looked like! :0
